Freefall

A minute from 4000 metres over Pomerania: the Bay of Gdańsk on the horizon, hoops in freefall and a landing in the circle by the hangar.

Pick a jump

The same course for everyone, until midnight in Poland.

Arrows or WASD: fly. Space: pull, then legs up. P: pause. Mouse: hold the left button where you want to go, or drag with it in the lower part of the screen like a joystick. Right button: pull, then legs up.

How to play

  1. 01You leave the aircraft at 4000 metres. Steer with the arrows or WASD, the mouse or a finger: show it where to fly.
  2. 02Fly through the hoops. A streak multiplies the score, and flying dead through the middle earns a bonus. Gold hoops are worth three times as much.
  3. 03Keep clear of other skydivers and flocks of geese. A collision breaks the streak.
  4. 04At 1800 metres the altimeter beeps. Pull with Space or the button, ideally between 1600 and 1400 metres.
  5. 05Under the canopy you turn left and right. The marker on the ground shows where you'd land flying straight. Aim for the circle by the hangar.
  6. 06Just above the ground your instructor calls “Legs up!”. Press Space or the button then.

What's true to life

The height, the speed and the order of things are real: exit at 4000 metres, about a minute of freefall at up to 200 km/h, the canopy opening at around 1500 metres and a few quiet minutes under it. In the game freefall runs a little fast, and the canopy ride is cut right down so it all fits in one round.

There are no hoops on a real jump, and your instructor opens the canopy. Under it you steer together. Legs up for the landing is entirely serious, though: it is the one thing in the whole jump that really depends on you.
