Skydiving in Gdańsk and the Tricity

Skyluma runs tandem skydives near Gdańsk. We jump from 4,000 metres, which is full altitude: around 60 seconds of freefall at up to 200 km/h. The instructor then opens the canopy and you fly quietly over Pomerania for several minutes.

A tandem jump needs no preparation and no course. You stay attached to an instructor who handles the exit, the freefall, the opening and the landing. Your job is to look around.

Who can jump

• People who have never jumped before.
• No minimum age; under-18s need written consent from a legal guardian.
• Up to 100 kg body weight. If you are close to the limit, write to us before buying, not on the day.
• No medical conditions that rule out physical exertion. No medical certificate is needed; you sign a declaration on site.

Where the dropzone is

Not in Gdańsk itself. The dropzone is near the city, inland, a few dozen kilometres from the coast and a few dozen minutes' drive from the Tricity. We send the exact address and directions when your date is confirmed, because on a given day jumping may run from a different airfield. So take the address from your confirmation, not from a map.

If you are in Gdańsk without a car, ask about getting there before you pick a day. The dropzone is outside the city and you only learn its address from the confirmation, so this is far easier to sort out in advance than on the morning of the jump. What it costs

The price covers the equipment, the instructor, the flight to full altitude and the briefing on the ground, and there is no fee for entering the dropzone. The variants differ only in the footage, because the jump itself is identical: a camera flyer is a separate skydiver who exits with you and films from outside, while the hand-held camera films your face at close range. Season and jumping days

We jump from April to October, at weekends and on selected weekdays.

You book the date yourself, with your voucher code, on the booking page, and the confirmation arrives by e-mail. Whether jumping runs on that day is still decided at the dropzone on the day, not by last week's forecast. Wind that is too strong or cloud that hangs too low can close a day that looked fine on paper. What actually stops jumping is set out in when we jump.

Buy the voucher before you travel

A jump is bought as a voucher and the date is booked with its code, so the order never changes: purchase first, booking second. You pay online, by BLIK, card or a fast bank transfer, and the PDF with the code is e-mailed as soon as the payment is confirmed.

On a weekend trip the order matters, because there is no booking without a code. Buy the voucher before you set off for Gdańsk, and book the date as soon as the code arrives. BLIK only works with a Polish bank account, so with a bank abroad a card is usually the easier route.

A few days in Gdańsk

If you live near Gdańsk, a day the weather closes simply means another Saturday. If you are here for three days, those three are all you have, so the order matters.

• Book the jump for the first jumping day of your stay, not the last. If the weather closes it, you still have the next one.
• Keep it off the day you leave. The time of your jump moves with the weather and the manifest, so a train or a flight that same day is a risk you do not need.
• Leave the rest of the jump day free. Sightseeing and a table booked for eight are better moved to another day.
• Put the night out after the jump, not before it. Anyone under the influence of alcohol does not jump that day, and that includes last night's drinks.

If your stay ends without a jump, the voucher does not expire with it. It is valid for 12 months from purchase and it is a bearer voucher, so you can come back on your next visit or give it to someone who lives closer. If 12 months will not be enough, write to us before it expires.

How the day works

1. 01Arrival at the dropzone and paperwork: an identity document and a signed declaration.
2. 02A short briefing with your instructor: how to hold your body on exit, and how to lift your legs for the landing.
3. 03Harness, goggles and, if conditions call for one, a jumpsuit. It is all waiting at the dropzone.
4. 04The climb to 4,000 metres. The horizon moves further out with every hundred metres, and this is the first good moment for the view.
5. 05Exit, around 60 seconds of freefall, the canopy opening and several quiet minutes of flight down to the landing.

You will usually spend several hours at the dropzone, because the order of jumps follows the weather and how busy the day is. What to pack

If your bag is packed for a few days by the sea, start with your shoes. Flip-flops and sandals are out; you need lace-ups, or shoes that hold your feet firmly. The rest is a short list, and the full one is in what to bring and wear.

• An identity document, because we check age before the jump.
• Your voucher code, on your phone or printed out.
• Written consent from a legal guardian if the jumper is under 18.
• A sweatshirt to go over the top. It is noticeably colder at 4,000 metres than on the ground, in July as well.

What you see from up there

We jump over land, a few dozen kilometres from the coast. In good visibility the Bay of Gdańsk lies as a darker sheet on the horizon, while the fields, forests and lakes of Pomerania spread out under the canopy. The Old Town, the medieval Crane and the shipyard cranes are not things you can pick out from this height: at a few dozen kilometres you see patches and edges, not buildings.
